The Best of Red Carpet: 2016 Emmys Beauty

September 19, 2016

We interrupt London Fashion Week to bring you a different kind of catwalk, courtesy of Hollywood’s A-list: the 2016 Emmys star-studded red carpet, of course. Last night, we weren’t only taking note of the fashion (or the arm candy), but looking for the “best of” beauty as well. Herein find the looks that will inspire our own glamour manifesto as we head straight for a party-filled holiday season ahead.

Kerry Washington is always at the top of our “best” everything list and last night? She did not disappoint. The Scandal actress showed off her baby bump in a custom cutout Brandon Maxwell cape dress, wearing her hair long, voluminous, and curly and her lashes equally dramatic. One word: stunning.

milk + honey Picks: Best of Oscars 2016 Beauty

February 29, 2016

That’s a wrap on awards season — and the Oscars served as the icing on the cake. Leo finally took home his first statue, Stacey Dash made us scratch our heads, and of course, the gowns and glamour took center stage during the most fun part of the night: the red carpet. Here are our Oscars 2016 beauty winners: a well-rounded mix of unexpected hair accents, beautiful styling, and bold makeup choices. Do you agree? Have another “best of” to add? Leave yours in the comments below.

Best Use of Platinum: Jennifer Lawrence

We couldn’t help but stare at Lawrence’s gorgeous platinum lob, which served as a stark contrast to the delicate lace neckline of her gown.

Best Braid of the Night: Olivia Wilde

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 12.34.30 PM

Wilde’s side-parted braid headband meets braid-bun proved (once more) that opting for something a little more bohemian can be equally as scene-stealing and elegant as a more traditional, slicked-back updo.

Best Interpretation of a Mohawk: Kerry Washington

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 12.37.52 PM

Washington is no stranger to a smoldering red-carpet look, but this time around, she edged it up via “glamorous mohawk updo.” Or at least, that’s what we’re calling it.  Pair it with sultry black eyeliner and a nude lip, and you’re all set.

Best Surfer Babe Look: Margot Robbie

What else can you say about Robbie’s beachy, tousled hair? It’s not messy but it’s certainly not polished. We love that it fits in perfectly with her warm, golden tones and gilded dress. To us, this look screams “make your appointment for the American Wave.”

Best Sweet + Simple Look: Alicia Vikander

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 12.44.39 PM

At first glance, Vikander’s simple half-updo seemed an almost too-casual look for the red carpet, but a second side view reveals that she styled her strands in a sweet, unexpected half-bun.

Best Use of a Hair Accessory: Brie Larson

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 12.50.28 PM

Oscar-winning Larson deserves another round of applause for this genius use of a hair accessory. She wore a stunning diamond-encrusted comb with floral accents in her half-up/half-down hair, providing just the right amount of ‘wow’ factor to an otherwise low-key hairstyle.

Best Use of Green Eyeshadow: Rachel McAdams

McAdams never fails to impress us, but tonight’s look made us green with envy. Her smoky emerald shadow (Chanel’s Long Wear Luminous Eye Shadow in Griffith Green) on her lower lash line was the perfect accent to a stunning gown.

Golden Globes 2015: The Looks We Loved

January 12, 2015

Award show season is here, and with it, a fresh batch of star-studded looks straight from the red carpet. Last night’s Golden Globe Awards ushered in a sea of apple-red, intricate black lace, and body-skimming gowns, as well as a noticeable return to classic Hollywood beauty “moves.” Think dramatic waves to rival equally dramatic eyes, matte red lips, and enviable haircuts. Our favorite looks from the evening, listed below, are simply meant to inspire our own hair/styling routines — or if you’re feeling a bit gutsy (and are currently sporting long hair), it might just be time to try the “the chop” á la Sienna Miller. Just sayin’.

Amy Adams

When we think Old Hollywood glamour-turned-modern day beauty, Amy Adams tops our list. For the Globes, makeup artist Stephen Sollitto chose a subtle champagne-meets-copper eye to complement her soft waves and ice blue Atelier Versace gown.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Love her or hate her, she knows how to make her mark. This time, it’s in cotton-candy pink with a low-key twist. Unlike her more iconic pink moment — in pale pink Ralph Lauren at the 1999 Oscars — Paltrow’s Michael Kors gown was a sportier version of sexy, a silhouette that her stylist David Babaii highlighted with ’70s hair: straight from the crown to the jawline, and then perfectly undone, loose curls to finish.

Viola Davis

Davis rarely makes the wrong move on the red carpet, case in point. Not only was her ruby-tinged Donna Karan gown a source of bold color choice, her eyes and lips also proved to be statement-worthy. The juxtaposition of shimmer-y mauve eyeshadow and classic red lip resulted in one seriously glamorous look.

Sienna Miller

This British beauty tied for Best Dressed and Best Haircut of the night — at least in our books. If ever there were real-time motivation to go for “the chop,” this would be it. Her barely-there makeup, courtesy of makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, allowed us to focus on the gorgeous embellishments of her Miu Miu gown and, of course, that ridiculously awesome bedhead bob.

Emma Stone

Stone knows how to wear dramatic looks with ease. Chanel makeup artist Rachel Goodwin not only emphasized the redhead’s feline eyes with a smokey cat eye, she also paired it with a soft berry-hued lip and tousled waves. It’s one-part dressed up, one-part just-woke-up, and we love it.
