Kybella Treatments

Kybella

Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is the only FDA-approved medicine used to improve the appearance and profile of subcutaneous tissue below the chin (submental fat). Kybella destroys the fat cells that accumulate in the neck and the body then naturally eliminates the fat slowly over a few weeks.

Our licensed medical aesthetics team will work with you directly to recommend the best treatments for your medical aesthetics objectives using an approach that focuses on subtle rejuvenation.

If this is your first time receiving a medical aesthetics treatment with milk + honey a health history and general consultation are required. If you’ve already received your health history and general consultation you can book your medSPA treatment online.

Kybella FAQs

What areas/concerns does Kybella address?

Kybella is a non-surgical procedure that destroys unwanted fat cells in the tissues located under your chin to improve your profile. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

What should I expect during treatment?

During the consultation with your provider, you will discuss concerns, recommendations, and a treatment plan. Your skin will be cleansed prior to the procedure. The procedure consists of numerous injections of the medication into the subcutaneous fat in the desired treatment area.

How long does a Kybella treatment take?

A Kybella treatment typically takes about 60 minutes.

Does Kybella hurt?

During the treatment, the patient will experience pain due to the injection, along with a burning sensation from the medication. The patient will develop redness and swelling. Ice packs and numbing cream will be on hand to diminish discomfort and reduce swelling.

Is there downtime?

There is minimal to no downtime. You may resume your daily activities or return to work after receiving treatment. Visible swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness typically persist for 1 to 3 weeks after each treatment, so the patient should plan accordingly.

How long will my results last?

Based on your individual consultation, you may receive a series of Kybella treatments in order to achieve your personal aesthetic goals. Each Kybella treatment session is given at least 1 month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments. Your results will remain once you complete your treatment series.

Are there contraindications?

Do not receive a Kybella treatment if you have:

  • An active infection (Kybella should not be performed on anyone who has an infection in the area)
  • Medical conditions in the neck area, including but not limited to difficulty swallowing
  • Planned cosmetic surgical procedures in the neck or face area such as facelift or neck lift
  • An enlarged thyroid gland
  • A bleeding disorder

  • Rest and intermittently ice the treated region
  • Sleep on your back and with the head elevated for the next 3 to 5 days after treatment
  • Avoid vigorous exercise, sun and heat exposure for 3 to 5 days after treatment
